What is the definition of the armed forces?

  • The armed forces of the union means the Army, Navy and Air Force of the Indian Union including the Armed forces of the former indian states but excludes the person who have served in defence security corps (DSC), General Reserve Engineering Forces (GREF), Lok Sahayak Sena and Para Military Forces (PMF).

  • What is the procedure for getting registered at respective Zila Sainik Welfare Office (ZSWO)?

  • What is the procedure for getting registered at respective Zila Sainik Welfare Office (ZSWO)?

  • All the retired defence personnel are required to register themselves at the Zila Sainik Welfre office (ZSWO) where they propose to settle down after retirment as recorded in their discharge documents. For this purpose, all retiring defence personnel are required to fill up their registration form in duplicate at respective record office at the time of their discharge. One copy of the duly filled registration form is forwarded by the record office to concerned ZSWO by post and the second copy by hand thorugh the retirees. Thereafter, the individuals are required to call on concerned (zswo) alongwith three copies stamp size photographs, discharge book/ppo and other relevent service documents for registration of their names with the respective (ZSWO). Application form for applying for registration by ex-servicemen and widows will be provided by the respective (ZSWO).



  • Can i be issued ESM i-card after third loss?

  • No i-card under any circumstances will be issued after third loss.

  • How can i get anuity for Gallentry Award?

  • The Gallentry Award holder has to report to concerend Zila Sainik Welfre Office (ZSWO) to fill form for Anuity grant. The form has to be filled up on yearly basis. However, if the gallentry award holder is registered / settled outside his home state he has to take noc from the conered zila sainik welfre office (ZSWO).

  • Is there any Nodal Officer in the Civil Administraiton to address the grievences of Ex-Servicemen / Widows?

  • Yes. In every district assistant commissioner revenue (acr) has been designated as nodal officer for addressing the grievences of Ex-Servicmen, Widow and their Next Of Kin (NOKs). For detailed information please go through letters and circulars in the home page.

  • Suppose i am resident of District Ramban and there is no Zila Sainik Welfare Office as of now. Where should i register myself after retirement?

  • In home page there are details of Zila Sainik Welfare Offices (ZSWO’s) in J&K with area of their responsibility (AoR).

  • What will be the cretaria for establishment of new Zila Sainik Board in a District / Tehsil?

  • New Zila Sainik Board can bae setup by the concerend State / UT Government themselves if the population of ex-servicemen and families of serving/deceased service personnel is 7500 abaove. In other cases, prior approval of the Central Government will be required for setting up of new Zila Sainik Boards.
